No mundo inteiro diversos são os músicos que se inspiram na literatura gótica, fantástica e no realismo mágico notadamente After Forever, Anathema,Bauhaus, Björk, Cradle of Fifth, Dark Sanctuary, Épica, Esben And The Witch, Evanescence,  Faith and the Muse, HIM, Imperia, Kamelot, Lacrimas Profundere, Lacrimosa, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Nocturna, Placebo, Portishead, Sinergy, Siouxsie, Sirenia, The Banshees, The Cure, The Gathering, The Sisters of Mercy, Tristania, Within Temptation e Xandria. A grande novidade é o trio britânico, Esben And The Witch (nome inspirado em um conto de fadas macabro de origem nórdica) composto por Daniel Copeman, Rachel Davies e Thomas Fischer que fazem canções nos moldes de histórias infantis para dormir, com temas de mistério. O mais recente hit é: Marching Song.
